A mm-Wave Switched-Capacitor RFDAC

This article proposes an interleaving switched-capacitor RF digital-to-analog converter (RFDAC) using edge combiner within the output stage to implicitly triple its effective clock carrier frequency and enable mm-wave (mmW) operation. Tripling in allows for increased energy efficiency, which is further improved by employing edge-combining-based frequency-tripling delay-locked loop (DLL) generation network. The tripling performed each slice of PA (SCPA), yet another 3 $\times $ reduction global distribution. Finally, a new layout structure accounts transmission-line (TL) effects, due large physical size passive capacitor array. Implemented 22-nm FD-SOI, prototype achieves notation="LaTeX">$ {{P_{\mathrm{ out}}}}>21$ dBm, drain efficiency >36%, system >22% while operating Ka -band at 28 GHz. Modulation 2.4 Gb/s results 3.3% EVM 30.8-dBc adjacent channel leakage ratio (ACLR).
